Online Divorce in seven steps

Online Divorce in seven steps

The entire divorce process with Century Legal’s New York Online Divorce can be completed remotely from the comfort of your home on your computer or mobile device. From qualifying and document preparation to final court filing, all steps are performed online with digital communication, e-signatures, and remote notarization.

Step 1: Pre-qualification (Takes minutes)

    1. You start by clicking “SEE IF YOU QUALIFY” (read more)
    2. Fill out a short Pre-Qualifying Questionnaire
    3. If eligible, you receive a Case ID
    4. After completion, you’re prompted to pay online 1 x $245 or 2 x $149
    5. All the documents are received after the full payment has been made. If only $149 have been paid, the client will simply receive the PDF versions of the documents to confirm their validity, while the rest will be received after the second $149 payment.
    6. Continue with a second, more detailed questionnaire (for Petitioner)
    7. After the Petitioner fulfills the questionnaire, the Respondent will receive its shorter version that also needs to be completed
    8. Upon payment, you’ll get an email to log in or create a Divorce Portal account and access the main questionnaire

Step 2: Big questionnaire & Attorney agreement

    1. You receive emails with additional questions (if necessary)
    2. Once the payment has been made, you sign the Attorney Service Agreement digitally
    3. After logging in, you complete the Big Questionnaire online

Step 3: Case review & Document drafting

    1. A paralegal reviews your answers:
      1. Accepted → Documents are drafted
      2. Conditionally Accepted → More info needed
      3. Rejected → You’re notified
    2. You review and approve each document online
    3. If corrections are needed, use the comment box (revisions may incur a $50 fee - in case the client’s fault invoked the revision)
    4. Once approved, documents are locked and cannot be altered
    5. The Petitioner gets their email to review, approve (or disapprove), and sign the documents

Step 4: Virtual Divorce Services (Notarization)

Online Notarization

      1. We automatically redirect you to your Remote Online Notarization (RON) via Bluenotary.com (Zoom platform) if the documents are approved
      2. Appointments available 8 AM – 9 PM EST
      3. You show ID, after the ID has been verified via AI system, you will meet with a notary and sign documents live via video
      4. If any document is disapproved, the process is paused, and revision/redrafting is initiated
Documents requiring notarization for the Phase 1 (Index Phase) include:
        1. Summons & Complaints
Documents requiring notarization for the Phase 2 include up to 12 documents:
        1. Sworn Affirmation of Plaintiff

        3. Separation Agreement (Settlement Agreement)
        4. (+ Child Support Worksheet & Annual Income Worksheet — only if children under 21 are involved)

Step 5: Filing the Index documents

    1. Once everything is signed and notarized, we ask for the Index Court Fee:
      1. $230 (Index Court Fee)

    2. You pay via Money Order or Zelle (credit/debit card not accepted)
    3. Our team:
      1. Verifies documents
      2. Uploads all notarized files to our secure cloud
      3. Files your case electronically through NYSCEF
Info
Please note: In the Index Phase the filing will be done in the Petitioner's home county.

    1. The Petitioner receives confirmation once the case is officially filed
    2. The Petitioner will receive the Index Number & the link to make the payment ($475) for the Phase 2

Step 6: RJI phase

    1. Once the payment of $475 is made, the legal team will draft the RJI documents
    2. The Petitioner will receive a link to approve or disapprove the documents
    3. If the Petitioner approves the documents, the Respondent will receive a link to approve or disapprove them
    4. If the Respondent approves the documents, the Petitioner receives a link for document notarization, after which the Respondent will have to notarize them as well.
    5. After both spouses notarize the documents, the legal team will file them to the court.

Step 7: Divorce finalization

    1. Depending on the county where the documents had been filed, the clients will have to wait anywhere between 3 weeks & 6 months for the divorce to be granted.
    2. After the Divorce has been granted, the clients will receive an email with all the documents notarized.
    3. The clients will not receive the Divorce Certificate, but will have to call the Court & ask for the copies to be sent to them.
